Sedation Dentistry
Dental fear is common and nothing to apologize for. Many of our patients arrive after years away because something went badly once. Sedation lets us do the treatment comfortably in fewer visits, and it lets you get through an appointment you have been putting off.
Signs this may be right for you
- You cancel dental appointments or avoid booking them
- You have had a painful or frightening experience before
- You gag easily or cannot sit still in the chair
- You need a lot of treatment and want fewer visits
- Numbing medication has not worked well for you in the past
What treatment involves
Talk-it-through visits
Sometimes no medication is needed. We will walk you through each step first, agree on a stop signal, and go at your pace.
Nitrous oxide
Inhaled sedation that takes the edge off within minutes and wears off just as quickly, so you can drive yourself home.
Oral sedation
A prescribed tablet taken before the appointment for deeper relaxation. You will need someone to drive you.
Longer combined appointments
Where it is safe to do so, we group treatment into fewer, longer visits so there are fewer appointments to dread.
Common questions about sedation dentistry
- Will I be unconscious?
- No. With nitrous oxide and oral sedation you stay awake and able to respond, you simply feel calm and the visit seems to pass quickly.
- Is sedation safe?
- For healthy patients it is very safe. We review your medical history and medications first and monitor you throughout the appointment.
- I am embarrassed about the state of my teeth.
- You will not hear a lecture here. We see this every week, and the only thing that matters to us is getting you comfortable and healthy again.
